DGCA Says IndiGo Has Processed Refunds for Cancellations Between Dec 3-5, Extends Vouchers

DGCA confirms IndiGo has cleared refunds for early December cancellations and issued two ₹5,000 vouchers per affected passenger.

Domestic carrier IndiGo has confirmed that all refunds for passengers affected by flight cancellations between December 3 and 5, 2025, have been processed and cleared to the original mode of payment, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Friday.

The aviation regulator noted that it has been closely monitoring the situation and engaging with the airline regarding refunds and compensations for passengers impacted by operational disruptions during the period. In addition to refunds, IndiGo has extended a “gesture of care”, offering two travel vouchers of ₹5,000 each, valid for 12 months, to further support affected passengers.

DGCA regulations entitle passengers to compensation for “facilities” owed in cases of denied boarding, flight cancellations, and delays. Despite the airline’s refund efforts, complaints from passengers regarding delayed or unreceived refunds continue to appear on social media. Some passengers have reported waiting over 10 days after submitting their refund requests, prompting public frustration under hashtags like #RefundDelay.

The December disruptions, which affected hundreds of flights from December 2 to 9, prompted Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu to inform Parliament that more than ₹750 crore had already been refunded to passengers. In response to the large-scale operational issues, DGCA had set up a four-member committee, headed by Joint Director General Sanjay K Brahmane, to review the circumstances behind the disruptions.

The panel submitted its findings to DGCA on December 27, 2025. Minister Naidu later stated that the ministry is analysing the report and coordinating with DGCA to take strict action as needed, emphasising that the situation is being treated seriously to prevent similar incidents in the future.

IndiGo continues to work with regulators and affected passengers to ensure all compensations are delivered, while aviation authorities maintain oversight to enforce compliance with passenger rights and safety regulations.
