College Overpackers, These 5 Tote Bags Make Carrying Everything Easier

Five roomy tote bags for college overpackers.

If there is one thing I have learnt from my college days to my current office life, it is that I am incapable of carrying only the essentials. My laptop, notebook, charger, water bottle, makeup pouch, wallet, sunglasses, random receipts and several things I probably did not need somehow all end up in my bag. I have been a tote-bag person since college and still carry one to work almost every day.

The DailyObjects Idyll Tote is the one I currently use for work, and its biggest advantage for me is the combination of space and organisation. It has a dedicated laptop section for devices up to 14 inches, six external pockets, two water-bottle sections and internal slip pockets. Made from soft-touch, water-repellent polyester with polyfill cushioning, it is particularly suited to students or working professionals who carry a laptop, books, bottles and several smaller essentials. Its practical, slightly sporty appearance also works well with casual outfits.

The Kawn Korean Tote is a more aesthetic option for students who want their college bag to complement their outfit. Its corduroy/canvas-style construction, zip closure, multiple pockets and large-capacity design make it suitable for notebooks, chargers, wallets, cosmetics and other everyday items. However, I would check the actual dimensions before using it for a laptop, as a large-capacity description does not guarantee compatibility with every device. At around ₹800 at the time of checking, it is also positioned as a more affordable everyday option.

The FUOCO Canvas Messenger Bag is slightly different from the other picks because it is designed more like a messenger or crossbody bag. With approximately 10 litres of capacity, multiple pockets, two handles and an adjustable shoulder strap, it offers more flexibility for students who move around campus frequently. Its approximately 300-gram weight also makes it a relatively lightweight option for everyday essentials. However, laptop specifications vary across listings, so students should check their device measurements before buying rather than relying on an assumed laptop size.

For a more polished college-to-office look, the Miraggio Marcy Solid Tote and Lino Perros Colour-Blocked Commuter Tote are stronger choices. The structured Miraggio Marcy measures approximately 37 × 27 × 12 cm and comes with a detachable pouch, making it suitable for notebooks, smaller devices, chargers and personal essentials. The Lino Perros tote, meanwhile, measures around 40 × 12 × 33 cm and has a faux-leather construction, six internal pockets and one external pocket. It weighs approximately 770 grams and offers a more organised, dressier everyday carry, although neither bag has a dedicated laptop sleeve listed.

For me, the right college tote depends less on appearance and more on what you actually carry. The DailyObjects Idyll makes the most sense for someone carrying a laptop, bottle, notebook and numerous smaller items. The Kawn suits students who prioritise a casual, Korean-inspired aesthetic, while the FUOCO is better for those who value flexible carrying. The Miraggio Marcy works well for a structured college-to-office wardrobe, and the Lino Perros is a useful middle ground for someone who wants a polished tote with plenty of internal organisation. Before buying, check laptop dimensions, pocket placement, closure, handle length and the bag's empty weight. For heavier loads involving several books and a laptop, however, a backpack may still be more comfortable because it distributes weight across both shoulders.
