Chinese Boy Sets New World Record By Solving 3x3x3 Cube In Seconds
Chinese boy sets world record by solving 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube in seconds.
Chinese speedcuber Xuanyi Geng has set a new world record in the 3x3x3 cube category, achieving an average solve time of just 3.71 seconds at a competition held in Deqing, further cementing his dominance in the rapidly evolving sport of speedcubing. The record was set at the Deqing Small & Special 2026 event, held in Huzhou on April 26, 2026, where Geng delivered an exceptionally consistent series of solves. His recorded times during the round were 3.79 seconds, 4.33 seconds, 3.61 seconds, 3.74 seconds, and 2.80 seconds. Under World Cube Association (WCA) rules, the fastest and slowest solves are discarded, and the remaining three times are averaged to determine the official result.
After removing the best and worst performances, Geng’s final average was calculated at 3.71 seconds, breaking his own previous world record of 3.84 seconds set earlier this year at the Beijing Winter 2026 event in Beijing on January 11, 2026. The improvement highlights not only his speed but also his consistency under competitive pressure.Speedcubing, which involves solving a scrambled 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube in the shortest possible time, has grown into a highly technical competitive discipline over the past decade.
Elite competitors often rely on advanced memorisation techniques, algorithm optimisation, and rapid finger dexterity to achieve sub-five-second averages at the highest level.Geng’s latest achievement reflects the increasing competitiveness of the sport, where world records are being broken by fractions of a second. His performance also underscores how young athletes are pushing the boundaries of human reflexes and cognitive speed in puzzle-solving disciplines.

Observers of the sport note that such records are becoming increasingly difficult to surpass, as top competitors refine both hardware (smooth-turning cubes) and software (algorithm sets and training methods). Geng’s consistency across multiple solves in the same range is seen as a key factor separating elite speedcubers from the rest of the field. With this new milestone, Xuanyi Geng continues to establish himself as one of the defining figures in modern speedcubing, setting a benchmark that will challenge competitors worldwide in upcoming international events.
