Can Simple Food Swaps Help Reduce Hair Fall? Nutritionist Shares Tips
Nutritionist shares diet tips for healthier hair.
Hair fall can be influenced by several factors, including genetics, stress, lifestyle choices, nutritional deficiencies and overall health conditions. While persistent or excessive hair loss may require medical attention, nutritionists suggest that making healthier food choices can support hair strength and improve overall scalp health.
Holistic health nutritionist and wellness content creator Khushi Chhabra has shared simple dietary swaps that may help people improve their daily nutrition and support healthier hair. In a social media post, she highlighted how small changes in morning routines, meals and snack choices can help the body receive better nutrients needed for healthy hair maintenance.
Chhabra advised avoiding habits such as drinking coffee on an empty stomach, skipping breakfast, consuming ultra-processed snacks, frequent alcohol intake and relying on foods that provide calories without adequate nutrition. She explained that these choices may affect the body’s nutrient balance and overall wellness, which can indirectly impact hair health.

As healthier alternatives, the nutritionist suggested starting the day with soaked methi dana (fenugreek seeds) water instead of empty-stomach black coffee, which she said may help support digestion and blood sugar balance. She also recommended having a protein-rich breakfast rather than skipping the first meal of the day, as adequate protein intake is important for maintaining body functions and supporting hair structure.
For snacks, Chhabra suggested replacing processed foods such as packaged namkeen and low-nutrition biscuits with options like pumpkin seeds and sprouted mung beans, which provide nutrients including healthy fats, fibre and minerals. She also recommended maintaining hydration through options such as electrolyte water or coconut water instead of excessive alcohol consumption, which can contribute to dehydration.
Experts note that hair fall can have multiple causes, and dietary improvements alone may not address every case. A balanced diet containing sufficient protein, vitamins, minerals and hydration, along with medical advice when needed, can help individuals take a more comprehensive approach towards maintaining healthy hair.
