Bhagyashree Takes on India's Diabesity Crisis With Simple Food Wisdom
Bhagyashree discusses diabesity awareness, diet myths and balanced eating
Actor and nutritionist Bhagyashree has stressed the importance of balanced eating and healthy lifestyle choices while addressing the growing burden of "diabesity" — the coexistence of diabetes and obesity — in India. Speaking about common food myths, she said maintaining a healthy diet is more important than following trends, adding that simple home-cooked meals such as dal and roti can be just as nutritious as foods like quinoa when consumed in the right quantities. She emphasised that moderation, consistency and overall dietary balance matter more than expensive or fashionable diets.
The 57-year-old actor, known for her role in Maine Pyar Kiya, has been actively promoting health awareness for several years. A qualified nutritionist, Bhagyashree regularly shares fitness routines, healthy recipes and traditional home remedies on social media. She has now partnered with digital health platform Neofit Universe as its brand ambassador to spread awareness about diabesity and encourage people to make informed decisions based on scientifically verified health information.
Bhagyashree said her personal connection to diabetes began with her mother's experience of living with the disease, making her more conscious about preventive healthcare and healthy living. She noted that India continues to face a rising burden of diabetes and obesity, with millions of people either diagnosed with diabetes or living with prediabetes. She stressed that lifestyle modifications, including regular exercise, healthy eating and timely health check-ups, are essential to reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

Speaking about diet trends, Bhagyashree cautioned against blindly following fad diets or assuming that imported foods are always healthier than traditional Indian meals. According to her, nutritious eating depends on portion control, variety and maintaining the right nutritional balance rather than replacing everyday foods with expensive alternatives. She encouraged people to focus on sustainable eating habits that can be maintained over the long term instead of seeking quick results through restrictive diets.
The actor also highlighted the importance of physical fitness as part of a healthy lifestyle. Despite her demanding schedule, she continues to practise regular exercise and yoga, encouraging people of all age groups to remain physically active. She believes that combining exercise with mindful eating helps improve overall health and can significantly reduce the risk of lifestyle-related diseases, including diabesity.
Bhagyashree's awareness campaign comes at a time when health experts are increasingly warning about the rapid rise in diabetes and obesity across India. Through her association with Neofit Universe, she hopes to promote evidence-based health education and motivate people to adopt healthier daily habits. She said small, consistent lifestyle changes can have a lasting impact on long-term health and are more effective than temporary diet trends.
