66-Year-Old Doctor Reveals Diet That Makes Him Feel 40 Years Younger

Dr. Mark Hyman shares his daily diet and green smoothie recipe to boost health and feel decades younger.

Dr. Mark Hyman, 66, has shared insights into his diet that he claims helps him “feel 40 years younger,” highlighting a focus on nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory foods. Taking to Instagram on April 3, Dr. Hyman emphasized that what we eat can influence gene expression—activating “health genes” while suppressing disease pathways. His approach combines phytonutrients, healthy fats, and spices to support both physical and cognitive vitality.

Dr. Hyman’s daily routine begins with breakfast before 9 a.m., featuring a veggie scramble paired with his signature green smoothie. The combination is designed to flood the body with polyphenols and other antioxidants early in the day. Lunch typically consists of a “big steak salad,” where he uses healthy fats from olive oil or avocado to enhance absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.

Snacks include grain-free rosemary zucchini bread, chosen for its memory-supporting properties from rosemary and cardiovascular benefits from olive oil. Dinner is a one-pan turmeric chicken with quinoa, which leverages the anti-inflammatory qualities of turmeric and ginger, paired with beta carotene and high-quality protein. Dessert consists of dark chocolate, eaten after a fibre-, protein-, and fat-rich meal to ensure slow sugar absorption.

Central to his routine is the “healthiest smoothie in the world,” a green smoothie that avoids high-fructose fruits common in breakfast shakes. Dr. Hyman wrote on his blog that after reducing sugar intake, he prefers nutrient-dense, savoury options that sustain energy for hours. The smoothie is featured in his latest book, Eat Fat, Get Thin, and can be lightly sweetened with berries if desired.

Dr. Hyman’s Green Breakfast Smoothie Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lemon, quartered (washed, unpeeled)
  • 1 whole avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 2 cups spinach
  • ½ bunch parsley
  • ½ bunch cilantro
  • 1 organic cucumber (washed, unpeeled)
  • 1 teaspoon organic extra-virgin olive oil
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Water as needed

Method:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth, adding water to reach desired consistency.

This smoothie, according to Dr. Hyman, provides a nutrient-dense start to the day while aligning with his anti-ageing, health-focused dietary approach.
