Four Raipur Cops Held For Bribery During Guwahati Cyber Probe
Raipur team allegedly freed two Bihar accused after bribes; third held pending payment.
Four police personnel from Chhattisgarh have been detained in Guwahati for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes from accused individuals during a cybercrime investigation, officials said. The team, which included an inspector, had travelled from Raipur to Assam as part of an interstate probe.
According to police, the Chhattisgarh team had been tracking suspects linked to a cyber fraud case and had already made arrests across multiple states, including Bihar and Assam. However, the operation took a controversial turn after some of the detained accused approached local authorities with allegations of bribery.
The complainants alleged that they were released after paying money to the visiting police personnel, while another accused was allegedly kept in custody until the demanded amount was arranged. These claims prompted immediate intervention by local law enforcement in Guwahati, who initiated an inquiry into the matter.

Following the complaint, Guwahati Police registered a case against the four personnel under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused officers were detained and questioned as part of the investigation, raising serious concerns about misconduct during interstate policing operations.
Officials said the team comprised an inspector, a head constable, and two constables, all part of a Raipur-based unit. Preliminary findings suggest that two of the accused individuals were allegedly released after payments were made, while a third was held back pending further payment.
The incident has sparked scrutiny over accountability and procedures followed by police teams operating outside their home state. Authorities have indicated that further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the alleged wrongdoing and to establish legal responsibility for those involved.
