Revanth Reddy Flags Concerns Over SIR-Linked Voter Deletions In Telangana

CM Revanth warns against illegal voter deletions via SIR.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday cautioned against the alleged misuse of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, warning that attempts to remove voters’ names “illegally” under the process must be resisted in the state. Speaking at a public event in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy urged vigilance over voter list revisions and alleged that similar controversies had emerged in several other states, including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Bihar. He stressed that such practices should not be allowed to take place in Telangana and called for safeguards to protect eligible voters from wrongful deletion.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing national debates around electoral roll revisions and allegations of irregularities in voter inclusion and exclusion during administrative exercises. Revanth did not provide specific instances in Telangana but warned of the broader risks such processes could pose if not properly monitored. Separately, the Chief Minister announced that the Telangana government would bear the additional financial burden faced by Haj pilgrims this year due to increased air travel costs. He attributed the rise in ticket prices to higher aviation fuel rates linked to the ongoing crisis in West Asia, which has impacted global fuel supply and pricing.

Revanth Reddy flagged off buses carrying Haj pilgrims from the Haj House in Hyderabad, stating that the state government’s decision was aimed at ensuring that pilgrims were not financially burdened during their religious journey. He emphasised that the government would continue to support citizens across communities during times of economic strain. Reiterating his administration’s secular stance, the Chief Minister said his government treated people of all religions equally, adding that Hindus and Muslims were being regarded “as two brothers and my two eyes.” He also highlighted welfare initiatives for minority communities, claiming they were receiving proportional benefits in government schemes and employment opportunities.

In a political attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Revanth Reddy alleged that the party was attempting to expand its influence in Telangana, while asserting that the Congress had successfully contained its growth in several other southern states. He also made remarks referencing political dynamics in neighbouring states, underscoring the competitive landscape ahead of future elections. The Chief Minister also recalled past relief measures, including compensation provided to families of victims of a bus accident in Saudi Arabia, reiterating his government’s commitment to supporting citizens abroad during emergencies.
