Pahalgam Defies Fear: Valley Reclaims Its Paradise Status Post-Attack

One year after the Lashkar attack killed 26 tourists, Pahalgam regains vibrancy as visitors return, praising security and local warmth.

In the heart of Kashmir, the picturesque landscapes of Pahalgam are slowly stepping out from the shadow of last year’s terror attack. The valley, known for its scenic meadows and pristine rivers, is witnessing a steady return of tourists, signalling a revival of its tourism industry.

On April 22, 2025, Lashkar terrorists struck the region, claiming the lives of 26 tourists. The tragic incident left Pahalgam shrouded in fear, with once-bustling spots like Betab Valley and Aru Valley turning eerily quiet. Hotels and local businesses struggled as visitors stayed away, uncertain about the security situation.

However, months of improved safety measures and community efforts have brought back confidence among travellers. Police and paramilitary forces strengthened patrolling, checkpoints were installed, and local guides actively coordinated with authorities to ensure tourist safety. These efforts are gradually restoring Pahalgam’s image as a safe destination.

Visitors are beginning to return, drawn by the valley’s natural beauty and the assurance of protection. “Kashmir is truly paradise on earth,” said Urvashi, a tourist from Delhi. “One should visit the valley at least once a year.” She noted that the atmosphere felt calm, with tourists enjoying the scenic trails without fear.

Rajesh Kumar, another tourist from Lucknow, praised the hospitality of locals and the efficiency of security personnel. “We had full faith in our security forces,” he said. “The people here are warm and welcoming. No enemy can scare us away when the community and the forces are united.”

Local businesses are also seeing signs of recovery. Hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops report a noticeable uptick in bookings and sales, helping the region’s economy bounce back. While the scars of last year remain, Pahalgam’s resilience and the return of tourism indicate a promising path toward normalcy and renewed hope.
