How To Make Protein-Rich Soya And Chana Dal Paratha At Home

A protein-rich Indian breakfast recipe combining soya chunks and chana dal is gaining attention for its nutritional value and satiety benefits. The dish, soya and chana dal paratha, is a stuffed flatbread that blends plant-based protein with traditional Indian flavours, making it a wholesome start to the day. According to culinary guidance, it is especially suitable for those looking to increase protein intake in vegetarian diets while still enjoying familiar comfort food. 

The preparation begins with soaking and softening soya chunks and chana dal separately. Once processed, the soya is typically minced and the chana dal is boiled until tender but not mushy. These ingredients are then combined with spices such as cumin, turmeric, ginger, green chillies, and garam masala to create a flavourful stuffing. The mixture is cooked lightly in a pan until aromatic and dry enough to be used as a filling for parathas. 

For the dough, whole wheat flour is kneaded with water, salt, and sometimes a small amount of oil or ghee to make it soft and pliable. After resting, the dough is divided into small portions, rolled out, and filled with the prepared soya-chana dal mixture. The edges are sealed carefully to prevent leakage before rolling it again into a flat disc.

The stuffed parathas are then cooked on a hot tawa or griddle, with ghee applied on both sides to achieve a crisp golden-brown texture.
