Fitness Coach Reveals How To Enjoy Mangoes Without Derailing Your Goals
Expert shares practical tips for enjoying mangoes while managing weight.
Mangoes, often referred to as the king of fruits, are a summer favourite enjoyed by millions. However, many people trying to lose weight avoid them because of the widespread belief that mangoes contribute to weight gain. Fitness experts say this concern is often misplaced, arguing that the issue lies not with the fruit itself but with how it is commonly consumed.
According to Naman S Solanki, a fitness coach known for his own weight-loss transformation from 125 kg to 79 kg, mangoes can be included in a fat-loss diet when eaten mindfully. In an Instagram post shared on June 5, Solanki challenged the notion that mangoes are inherently unhealthy, stating that the fruit itself is not the problem. Instead, he said, unhealthy eating habits surrounding mango consumption are what often lead to excess calorie intake.
Solanki explained that many people turn mangoes into high-calorie treats by blending them into milkshakes, adding sugar to aamras or consuming large quantities alongside already heavy meals. These additions can significantly increase calorie consumption and make it more difficult to maintain a calorie deficit, which is essential for weight loss. As a result, the fruit is often blamed for weight gain when the real issue lies elsewhere.

The fitness coach recommends enjoying mangoes in their natural form rather than as part of sugary desserts or beverages. Eating a reasonable portion of fresh mango as a standalone snack can help satisfy sweet cravings while providing essential nutrients, fibre and antioxidants. By avoiding added sugars, syrups and sweetened dairy products, individuals can enjoy the fruit without substantially increasing their calorie intake.
Experts also emphasise the importance of portion control. Like any food, mangoes contain calories, and consuming them in excessive amounts may affect weight-management goals. However, when incorporated into a balanced diet and paired with an active lifestyle, they can be enjoyed without compromising fat-loss progress.
As summer reaches its peak, nutrition and fitness professionals continue to encourage a more balanced approach to eating. Rather than eliminating nutritious seasonal fruits out of fear, they advise focusing on overall dietary habits and moderation. For mango lovers, that means enjoying the fruit sensibly and recognising that healthy weight management depends on total calorie intake and lifestyle choices, not a single food item.
