Bomb Threat Email Targets Major Airports, Security on Edge After Delhi Blast
Delhi airports on high alert after bomb threat turns out to be a hoax.
Security agencies were put on high alert on Wednesday after a bomb threat email referencing multiple airports, including Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, was received by IndiGo Airlines. The alert came as authorities continue to ramp up security in the capital following the Red Fort car blast earlier this week that killed at least ten people. Delhi Police later confirmed that the threat turned out to be a hoax after an extensive inspection at the airport.
According to police officials, the fire brigade received a call about a possible bomb at IGI Airport’s Terminal 3 around 4 pm. Preliminary investigations traced the alert to an email sent to IndiGo Airlines through its grievance portal. The message mentioned several airports across the country, including those in Delhi, Chennai, and Goa. Authorities immediately carried out precautionary security sweeps at all identified locations. “The situation at IGI Airport was brought under control after nothing suspicious was found,” a senior police officer said.
Meanwhile, an Air India Express Varanasi-bound flight also came under scrutiny after receiving a separate bomb threat. Following protocol, the airline’s spokesperson stated that a government-appointed Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was immediately alerted. “All necessary security procedures were promptly initiated. The flight landed safely, all passengers were disembarked, and the aircraft will resume operations after all mandatory checks,” the official said.

The security scare comes amid an atmosphere of heightened alert in Delhi following Monday’s explosion near the Red Fort. The blast, which killed ten and injured several others, has been linked to suspected terror elements. Investigators have identified possible associations to the owner of the vehicle involved in the explosion, raising concerns about a coordinated threat pattern.
Authorities have since stepped up surveillance and security drills at key transportation hubs and government installations across the National Capital Region. While officials have ruled out any immediate danger from Wednesday’s alerts, the incident has underscored the ongoing pressure on security forces to maintain vigilance in the aftermath of recent terror-linked events.
