Baramati Assembly By-election Result: Sunetra Pawar Leads Baramati By Massive Margin

Sunetra Pawar leads Baramati bypoll counting decisively while BJP shows gains in Rahuri constituency trends.

Counting of votes for the Baramati Assembly bye-election began on Monday morning, with early trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) showing Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Sunetra Pawar taking a decisive lead. The constituency, located in Maharashtra’s Pune district, has remained under close political watch due to its significance in state politics and strong voter base. Officials began counting votes in multiple rounds at designated centres under tight security arrangements.

As per the first round of counting data released around 9:40 a.m., a total of 27,264 votes had been counted so far in Baramati. Of these, Sunetra Pawar secured 26,773 votes, while all other candidates together managed only 491 votes. The early figures indicate a substantial margin in her favour, suggesting a strong consolidation of support in the initial phase of counting. Election officials stated that further rounds could either widen or adjust the current trend depending on postal and remaining ballots.

In a separate update from Maharashtra’s Rahuri Assembly constituency, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Akshay Shivajirao Kardile was also reported to be leading in the counting process. According to ECI figures from the second round, Kardile had secured 11,071 votes. Counting continued in multiple stages, with officials closely monitoring the evolving trends as postal ballots and electronic votes were verified. The constituency has also attracted attention due to its competitive multi-party contest.

The bye-elections across several states were conducted on April 9 and April 23 in constituencies spread across Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Tripura. These elections were necessitated due to the death or vacancy of sitting MLAs, leading to fresh contests in key seats. The polls have been viewed as politically important for major parties as they test voter sentiment between general elections and regional political shifts.

In Maharashtra, Baramati has drawn significant attention as it is regarded as a politically influential constituency with a strong electoral history. A total of 23 candidates contested the seat, including Sunetra Pawar, making it one of the most closely watched bye-election battles in the state. The seat became vacant following the death of sitting MLA Ajit Pawar, leading to heightened political focus and a high-profile contest in the region.

Meanwhile, counting of votes is also underway across several other states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry. Election officials are releasing results in phases as multiple rounds of counting progress throughout the day. Final results are expected to be declared after all rounds are completed, with political parties and observers closely tracking the trends to assess broader electoral implications.
