According to Ayurvedic practitioner Dr Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya, mornings are a critical period for digestion because the body’s “digestive fire” or agni is still gradually awakening. She explains that heavy or oily breakfasts can overwhelm the system early in the day, while simpler meals help the body regulate energy more efficiently. This approach is considered particularly useful for individuals managing diabetes, where avoiding sudden blood sugar spikes is important.
One commonly recommended option is barley (yava) vegetable dalia, which combines barley with light vegetables such as bottle gourd, carrots, and beans. Ayurveda considers barley beneficial for its ability to support metabolism and reduce excess sugar load in the body. Similarly, jowar vegetable upma is suggested as a cooling and easy-to-digest alternative that can help maintain steady energy levels without causing heaviness.
