Ola Electric Recovers From Tuesday Slump Following Aggarwal’s 2.6 Crore Share Sale

Ola Electric shares rebound after founder Bhavish Aggarwal sells a 0.6% stake worth Rs 92 crore.

Shares of Ola Electric Mobility Ltd rebounded on December 17, 2025, rising as much as 4.6% to ₹35.95 apiece in early trading, recovering from an 8.5% slump the previous day triggered by news of founder Bhavish Aggarwal's stake sale. The stock, which closed at ₹34.20 on Tuesday amid broader market concerns over the electric vehicle maker's performance, pared some gains later in the session but remained in positive territory.

Aggarwal sold approximately 2.62 crore shares—representing 0.6% of the company's equity—through a bulk deal on December 16 at an average price of ₹34.99 per share, valuing the transaction at around ₹92 crore. The company clarified that this was a one-time, limited monetisation of the promoter's personal holding, combined with other personal income, aimed at fully repaying a ₹260 crore promoter-level loan.

The repayment enabled the complete release of all previously pledged shares, amounting to 3.93% of equity, rendering the founder-promoter debt-free and removing a significant overhang for investors. Post-transaction, the promoter group's stake stands at over 34%, remaining among the highest for listed new-age companies in India.

Ola Electric emphasised that the deal was executed entirely at the personal level, with no involvement of the company itself, and would not affect operations, governance, management, financial position, or long-term strategic direction. The original pledge had been used to seed-fund Aggarwal's AI startup Krutrim, and no further promoter pledges are anticipated.

Amid ongoing challenges, including declining sales and intensified competition in the electric two-wheeler segment, the rebound reflects investor relief over the resolution of the pledge issue, though the stock has declined over 59% year-to-date as of mid-December 2025. Analysts maintain a mixed outlook, with an average 12-month price target suggesting potential upside, as the company focuses on expanding its product lineup and clean energy initiatives.
