IndiGo Q1 Results: Airline Reports Net Loss As Revenue Climbs 20%
IndiGo reports quarterly loss despite higher revenue growth.
InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the parent company of IndiGo, reported a sharp decline in profitability for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, slipping into a consolidated net loss despite recording strong growth in revenue. The airline posted a loss of Rs 238 crore during the quarter, compared with a net profit of Rs 2,176 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The results highlight the impact of rising costs and pressure on operating margins despite continued business growth.
The company’s revenue increased by 20 per cent to Rs 24,584 crore during Q1 FY27, compared with Rs 20,496 crore in the year-ago period. However, earnings performance weakened significantly, with EBITDA falling 37 per cent to Rs 3,267 crore from Rs 5,227 crore. The EBITDA margin also declined to 13.3 per cent from 25.5 per cent, representing a contraction of 1,220 basis points.
IndiGo’s adjusted EBITDA, excluding the impact of foreign exchange fluctuations, also declined during the quarter. The figure dropped 34 per cent to Rs 3,889 crore from Rs 5,866 crore in the corresponding period last year. The adjusted EBITDA margin decreased to 15.8 per cent from 28.6 per cent, reflecting continued pressure on profitability.

The airline’s fleet size also witnessed a decline during the quarter, falling by nine aircraft to 432 planes. The reduction comes as the company manages operational challenges while continuing to expand its network and maintain its position as one of India’s largest airlines. Despite the financial pressure, IndiGo has continued to see revenue growth driven by passenger demand and operations.
Following the announcement of the results, shares of InterGlobe Aviation ended the trading session lower. The stock declined 1.83 per cent to close at Rs 5,023.50, compared with a 0.53 per cent fall in the benchmark NSE Nifty 50 index. During the session, the stock moved between Rs 4,972.50 and Rs 5,135.00 after opening at Rs 5,065.00.
Over the past 52 weeks, InterGlobe Aviation shares have traded between a low of Rs 3,895.20 and a high of Rs 6,232.50. The company currently has a market capitalisation of around Rs 2.20 lakh crore, with a price-to-earnings ratio of 32.17. The latest results indicate that while IndiGo continues to benefit from strong revenue growth, profitability remains challenged by higher expenses and operational pressures.
