Former Oracle Engineer Shares Strategy Behind Multiple AI Job Offers in 45 Days
Ex-Oracle engineer shares rapid AI job recovery strategy.
A former Oracle software engineer has gone viral after sharing how they secured multiple AI engineering job offers within just 45 days of being laid off, offering detailed insights into their preparation strategy and job-hunting approach during a highly competitive tech market. The engineer said the experience came after being impacted by Oracle’s global layoffs, which reportedly affected around 30,000 employees.
The ex-employee shared their journey on Reddit, explaining that they were laid off on March 31 and initially chose to approach the setback as a reset moment rather than a failure. They described entering a focused learning phase, during which they aimed to quickly upskill in artificial intelligence engineering and rebuild their professional profile for new opportunities in the evolving tech landscape.
According to the post, the engineer dedicated one to two hours daily for about a month to learning AI fundamentals, including transformers and attention mechanisms. They said they used AI tools, including Claude, to structure a 30-day learning plan and worked through it systematically while also building two projects to showcase practical understanding. This hands-on approach, they noted, helped strengthen their technical portfolio significantly.

Alongside skill development, the engineer adopted an aggressive job application strategy, applying to 10–15 roles daily across platforms such as LinkedIn, Naukri, Indeed, and Wellfound. They also highlighted the importance of optimizing their online presence, stating that LinkedIn activity helped them attract interest from around 20 recruiters, some of whom directly scheduled interviews. They added that consistency and curiosity played a key role in staying motivated throughout the process.
By early to mid-May, the engineer had progressed to interviews with seven companies, ultimately receiving three job offers. They credited a combination of disciplined learning, consistent applications, and prior experience at Oracle for the successful outcome. The post quickly gained traction online, with users praising the engineer’s resilience and structured approach, while others debated the role of prior big-tech experience in accelerating career recovery after layoffs.
