Air Canada CRJ-900 With 76 Passengers Strikes Fire Truck on LaGuardia Runway

An Air Canada Express jet strikes a fire truck on LaGuardia runway, injuring the pilot, copilot and officers.

An Air Canada Express jet collided with a ground vehicle at LaGuardia Airport, with air traffic control audio capturing frantic warnings moments before the crash. According to recordings circulating online, an air traffic controller repeatedly shouted, “Stop, stop, stop” to a truck driver attempting to cross the runway seconds before the collision. The aircraft, a CRJ-900 operated by Jazz Aviation, had just landed when it struck the vehicle late Monday night.

The truck, reportedly a fire vehicle, had been responding to an emergency involving a United Airlines flight after a reported onboard issue. As the situation unfolded, the controller also instructed other aircraft, including a Delta flight, to abort movement and maintain distance.

Initial reports suggest that 76 passengers and four crew members were onboard the aircraft, with multiple injuries reported. The pilot and co-pilot were said to be seriously hurt, while emergency personnel in the vehicle sustained fractures but were in a stable condition.

Flight-tracking data indicated that the aircraft was moving at approximately 39 km/h at the time of impact, resulting in visible damage to the front section of the jet. Visuals from the scene showed the aircraft stationary on a wet runway following the collision.

Authorities, including the Federal Aviation Administration, have begun investigating the incident, which has raised fresh concerns about runway safety and coordination between ground vehicles and aircraft at busy airports.
