Great Eastern Shipping Dividend Record Date Today: Eligibility Cut-Off For Investors

Last day for investors to buy Great Eastern Shipping shares for dividend eligibility.

Shares of The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited are expected to remain in focus on Tuesday as investors track the stock ahead of its dividend record date, which determines eligibility for the company’s latest payout. The trading session marks the last opportunity for investors to purchase shares and qualify for the declared dividend before the stock adjusts to ex-dividend status.

The company has announced a fourth interim dividend of Rs 11.70 per equity share for the financial year 2025–26. The record date for determining eligible shareholders has been fixed as May 20, meaning only investors holding the stock by the end of Tuesday’s trading session will be entitled to receive the payout. The ex-dividend date, which typically coincides with the record date, is when the stock price is adjusted downward to reflect the dividend payout.

This adjustment ensures that the value of the dividend is effectively removed from the share price, maintaining market neutrality between new and existing investors.Under tax regulations, the dividend will be subject to tax deducted at source (TDS) or withholding tax. For resident individual shareholders with a valid PAN linked to Aadhaar, TDS is generally applicable at 10 per cent on dividend income.

However, no TDS is deducted if total dividend income during the financial year does not exceed Rs 10,000.The company has also outlined conditions under which certain shareholders may avoid TDS deductions by submitting a duly completed Form No. 15G or 15H, subject to eligibility criteria. These forms are applicable primarily for individuals whose total taxable income falls below the exemption threshold.

Market participants are expected to closely monitor the stock during Tuesday’s session, as dividend-driven trading activity often leads to increased volatility ahead of the record date. Analysts note that while dividend announcements typically attract short-term interest, long-term price movement is more closely tied to the company’s operational performance and broader shipping industry trends.
