Microsoft Techie Invests Rs 70,000 But Still Overspends Rs 1.36 Lakh Monthly

A Microsoft India employee from Hyderabad detailed her Rs 1.36 lakh monthly expenses.

A Microsoft India employee based in Hyderabad, Saniya Ahuja, went viral after sharing a detailed breakdown of her monthly expenses for March 2026, which totalled Rs 1.36 lakh. In a recent social media reel, Saniya provided a transparent account of how she allocated her income, offering insights into both her investment strategy and discretionary spending. She began by noting that she had overspent during the month and wanted to provide a clear picture of where her money went.

The largest portion of her spending, Rs 70,000, went toward mutual fund SIPs and other investment funds, reflecting her strong focus on financial planning. This accounted for more than half of her monthly expenditure and highlighted the priority she places on long-term wealth creation. Saniya described this component as the cornerstone of her financial strategy, emphasising the importance of consistent investing.

Non-essential expenses also contributed significantly to her monthly outlay. Shopping emerged as her biggest discretionary cost, with Rs 16,749 spent on clothing and lifestyle items. Travel added another Rs 10,913, a figure she attributed to rising airfare and transportation costs. Dining expenses, both at home and outside, came to approximately Rs 10,000, reflecting a mix of convenience and social activities.

She captioned her video, “You should know where your money is going. March Edition,” underscoring her emphasis on financial awareness.

Highlighting the importance of tracking expenses, Saniya explained that logging spending helps her identify areas for adjustment and manage overspending. She noted that by reviewing her monthly outflow, she could plan ahead and balance her budget in subsequent months. The video quickly gained traction online, with viewers praising her discipline and transparency. Many applauded her ability to balance significant investments with everyday spending while keeping a close eye on her finances.
