Indian Mother Reveals US Preschool Fees Comparable to Car Price

A video shared by Indian content creator Sonal Chaudhary has sparked widespread discussion after she revealed the cost of preschool education in her area. Sonal, an Indian mother living in Connecticut, visited a private preschool while exploring admission options for her two-year-old daughter, Bani. During the visit, she examined the institution’s facilities, daily schedule and approach to early childhood education.

A staff member named Cheryl guided Sonal through the preschool and explained its programme and learning environment. One feature that particularly impressed Sonal was the teacher-to-child ratio, with two teachers responsible for a group of only eight children. The small class size is intended to provide children with closer supervision, individual attention and greater opportunities to participate in classroom activities.

The preschool’s programme includes singing, yoga, creative play and early learning exercises designed to support children’s physical, social and cognitive development. Sonal was also shown the classrooms and other facilities available to enrolled children. She said the personalised attention and structured learning environment helped her better understand why private preschool education in the United States can be expensive.

According to Sonal, a programme conducted two days a week costs approximately ₹4 lakh annually, while attending five days a week costs close to ₹9 lakh per year. She compared the latter figure to the price of a new Maruti Suzuki Brezza in India. The academic session runs from September until late June, with classes scheduled from 8.45 am to 11.45 am.

Sonal noted that public education in the United States is generally available without tuition fees from kindergarten through Grade 12. Preschool, however, often falls outside that system and can become one of the largest early education expenses faced by families. Since the institution she visited is privately operated, its fees reflect factors such as staffing, facilities, specialised activities and smaller class sizes.

The video has prompted social media users to compare preschool expenses in India and the United States. While some viewers were surprised that a part-time programme could cost several lakh rupees annually, others highlighted the benefits of a low teacher-to-child ratio and specialised early learning. The discussion reflects the financial choices families face when balancing affordability with personalised care and educational opportunities for young children.
