Stock Market Today: Nifty, Sensex Outlook Hinges On Oil, Global Markets And Domestic Signals
Markets track global cues, oil prices
Indian equity benchmarks were set for a positive start on Tuesday, October 6, after the Nifty 50 and Sensex snapped a four-session losing streak in the previous trading session. GIFT Nifty was trading around 22,649.50, indicating a positive opening for the Nifty 50. On Monday, the Nifty gained 0.60% to close at 22,555.75, while the Sensex rose 0.66% to 72,382.47. The recovery was supported by easing crude oil prices and improving global market sentiment. Global cues were broadly supportive ahead of Tuesday's session. Most Asian markets were trading higher, following gains on Wall Street, where the Nasdaq Composite closed at a record high after rising 1.05%.
The S&P 500 gained 0.66%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.18%. The positive overseas trend provided additional support to domestic equities, although elevated US bond yields and continuing geopolitical risks remained factors that could limit the market's upside. Crude oil prices remained another important factor for Indian investors. Brent crude was trading close to $100 a barrel in Asian trade after declining in the previous session, as resilient Middle East crude exports and plans for a G7 emergency stockpile release eased immediate concerns over global supplies.
Lower oil prices can provide some relief to oil-importing economies such as India by reducing pressure on import costs and the current account, although the ongoing geopolitical situation remains a source of uncertainty for markets. Domestic investors were also assessing corporate developments and quarterly business updates. Financial stocks had led Monday's rebound after several lenders and financial companies reported encouraging September-quarter business numbers. Bajaj Finance, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda and Mahindra & Mahindra Finance were among the companies that gained following updates on loan growth and disbursements.

ITC also advanced sharply after a brokerage upgrade. The broader market participated in the recovery, with both mid-cap and small-cap indices gaining around 0.5% on Monday. Investors will also be watching the Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy decision due on Wednesday. Market participants are assessing the potential impact of crude oil prices, the rupee's movement and domestic inflationary pressures on the central bank's policy stance. Foreign portfolio investors have continued to sell Indian equities, while domestic institutional investors have provided support through purchases, making fund flows another key market variable.
The combination of global equity gains, softer oil prices and domestic institutional buying has improved sentiment after the recent correction. For Tuesday's trading session, market participants are likely to track GIFT Nifty, Asian equities, crude oil prices, currency movements, foreign and domestic institutional flows and stock-specific developments. The Nifty's close above 22,500 on Monday provided some relief after its extended decline, but the market remains sensitive to global interest-rate expectations and geopolitical developments. With the benchmarks attempting to extend Monday's recovery, traders will be watching whether the positive global cues translate into sustained buying during the Indian session or lead to another bout of volatility.
