Gold rates updated across major cities.
Gold and silver prices in India moved higher on Friday, August 7, reflecting continued strength in the domestic bullion market. At the national level, 24-carat gold was quoted at Rs 1,49,100 per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold stood at Rs 1,36,675 per 10 grams, according to data from bullions.co.in as of early morning. Silver 999 fine was priced at Rs 2,26,630 per kilogram, with silver 925 sterling at Rs 2,09,633 per kilogram. The gains come against a backdrop of strong yearly performance, with gold having surged 46.48 percent over the past twelve months and silver advancing an even sharper 96.05 percent from its level of Rs 1,15,600 per kilogram on the same date last year.
City-wise variations highlighted regional differences in retail rates. Chennai recorded the highest 24-carat gold price among major metros at Rs 1,49,260 per 10 grams, followed closely by Hyderabad at Rs 1,49,060 and Bengaluru at Rs 1,48,940. Mumbai reported Rs 1,48,830, Kolkata Rs 1,48,630, and Delhi the lowest among the listed cities at Rs 1,48,570 per 10 grams. The same ranking pattern was visible in 22-carat gold, with Chennai at Rs 1,36,822, Hyderabad at Rs 1,36,638, Bengaluru at Rs 1,36,528, Mumbai at Rs 1,36,428, Kolkata at Rs 1,36,244, and Delhi at Rs 1,36,189 per 10 grams.
Silver prices followed a similar geographic trend. Chennai again led with silver 999 fine at Rs 2,26,880 per kilogram, trailed by Hyderabad at Rs 2,26,580, Bengaluru at Rs 2,26,400, Mumbai at Rs 2,26,230, Kolkata at Rs 2,25,920, and Delhi at Rs 2,25,830. These differences typically arise from variations in local taxes, making charges, and dealer margins across states, even as the underlying national benchmark remains the primary reference point for the market.

The steady rise in precious metal prices has kept jewellery buyers, investors, and traders attentive to daily movements. Gold continues to serve as a traditional store of value and hedge against inflation and currency fluctuations in India, while silver’s sharper yearly gain has drawn additional interest from both industrial users and retail investors. The elevated levels mean that purchases of gold jewellery or investment bars now carry a significantly higher outlay compared with a year earlier, influencing demand patterns during wedding and festival seasons.
Market participants note that the combination of firm international cues and domestic demand has supported the recent upward trajectory. With 24-carat gold near the Rs 1.49 lakh mark per 10 grams and silver well above Rs 2.26 lakh per kilogram, consumers in major cities are factoring the higher rates into their buying decisions. Any sustained strength or further volatility in the coming sessions will continue to shape retail activity across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and other centres.
