‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Sequel Confirmed: Nag Ashwin Says Filming To Start in December

The filming of the sci-fi epic's sequel will start in December 2025 with more screen time for Prabhas than in the first instalment

Following the success of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, filmmaker Nag Ashwin has officially confirmed that a highly anticipated sequel is in the works and that filming will start in December 2025. The sci-fi epic, which featured an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, made a significant impact at the box office, leaving fans eager for the next chapter.

During a recent event celebrating the 10th anniversary of his debut film Yevade Subramanyam, Ashwin shared exciting updates about the sequel. He revealed that preparations are already underway and that filming is set to begin in December this year. This announcement has further fuelled anticipation among fans, who have been speculating about the film’s next installment.

One of the key discussions around Kalki 2898 AD was the limited screen time of Prabhas, who portrayed Karna. Addressing this, Ashwin explained that the first part focused on establishing the world and the backstories of Sumati (played by Deepika Padukone) and Ashwatthama (essayed by Amitabh Bachchan) to set the stage for Karna. He assured fans that the sequel would feature more of Prabhas, as it will primarily revolve around the characters of Karna and Ashwatthama. “The second part will have more of Prabhas, as it will be majorly centred around the Karna and Ashwatthama characters.”

Set in a futuristic world inspired by Hindu mythology, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ follows a mission to protect an unborn child believed to be the prophesised Kalki. With breathtaking visuals, compelling storytelling, and larger-than-life performances, the film set a new benchmark for sci-fi cinema in India.

As production gears up for the sequel, expectations are soaring. With Prabhas taking centre stage, fans can look forward to an action-packed and emotionally charged continuation of the saga, promising another cinematic spectacle.
