Four Injured as LPG Cylinder Blast Collapses Single-Storey House in Delhi’s Mukundpur

LPG cylinder blast in Mukundpur injures four people.

At least four people were injured after a powerful LPG cylinder explosion triggered the collapse of a single-storey house in the Mukundpur area of north Delhi on Tuesday morning, officials said. Emergency teams rushed to the spot as fears grew that more people could be trapped under the debris following the sudden blast. The incident took place in Gali No. 1, Ishu Vihar, Mukundpur-II, near a cremation ground. According to officials from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call reporting the explosion and subsequent building collapse was received at 9:37 am.

Within minutes, fire engines, police teams and disaster response personnel were deployed to the site to carry out rescue operations. An official said preliminary information suggested that a blast inside the house caused the structure to cave in almost instantly. The force of the explosion reportedly weakened the building’s foundation, leading to a partial collapse that trapped occupants inside. Residents in the vicinity reported hearing a loud explosion followed by panic and dust clouds rising from the site.

Officials said the affected structure was a 250 square-yard single-storey residential house. The sudden collapse left portions of the building completely flattened, making access difficult for rescue teams. Emergency personnel had to carefully remove debris by hand and with the help of basic cutting tools due to the unstable condition of the remaining structure.

Locals were among the first responders at the scene and helped pull out at least four to five injured persons from the rubble before emergency services arrived. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately disclosed by authorities, but officials confirmed that multiple individuals sustained injuries due to the blast and collapse.

As rescue operations continued, teams from the fire department and police cordoned off the area to prevent further risks. Heavy machinery was brought in to assist in clearing the debris, while search operations were carried out to ensure no one remained trapped inside the collapsed structure. Officials said the operation remained cautious due to the possibility of additional structural instability. Residents in the area gathered in large numbers as news of the explosion spread, creating tense scenes as rescue teams worked through the debris.

Some locals reported that the blast was so strong it shook nearby houses, though authorities have not yet confirmed the extent of damage to surrounding structures. Officials said the exact cause of the LPG explosion is under investigation. Technical experts are expected to examine the cylinder, gas connections and household setup to determine whether a leak, equipment failure or human error triggered the incident. Further details will be released after the completion of the initial assessment. Authorities have urged residents to follow safety precautions while handling LPG cylinders and to report any suspected gas leaks immediately to prevent similar incidents in the future.
