The India's Got Latent Contestants Whose Big Break Never Aired

Season One contestants recall missing their India's Got Latent moment.

Fourteen contestants who appeared in the final shoots of Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent Season One were left without the expected exposure after their episodes were never released following the controversy surrounding the show in 2025. For participants who hoped that even a few minutes on the popular comedy platform would increase their followers, visibility and income, the cancellation proved a major setback.

One of them, Vishal Sharma, had previously built a large following on TikTok, where he once had more than 1.5 million followers and earned around ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 a month through advertising. After TikTok was banned in India in 2020, his online reach and income declined sharply. A struggling actor in Mumbai, Sharma saw India’s Got Latent as another opportunity to rebuild his public profile and gain recognition.

Sharma appeared on the show as the “Silver Man”, a character based on his work as a living statue around Bandstand in Mumbai’s Bandra. He had hoped that his appearance would be broadcast after seeing a promotional photograph featuring him and Samay Raina. However, the controversy involving Ranveer Allahbadia erupted before the episode could air, leading to the cancellation of the first season and removal of its videos from YouTube.

Another participant, Saurabh Kingrani, a theatre artist from Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, had also applied to the show hoping to reach a wider digital audience. He was shortlisted through the show's application process and participated in the same unaired episode. Like Sharma, Kingrani had expected the programme to provide an opportunity to gain followers and potentially open new professional opportunities.

The cancellation was particularly significant because several contestants from the show had experienced substantial increases in popularity after appearing on it. Season Two participants such as Sukrut Deo and comedian Avinash Agarwal reportedly gained hundreds of thousands of followers following their appearances. For the 14 contestants whose Season One episode never reached audiences, that potential exposure disappeared before they could benefit from it.

The controversy surrounding the programme eventually reached the courts, while its cancellation left the participants waiting for an opportunity that never arrived. Although the Supreme Court later closed criminal proceedings involving Samay Raina and several others connected with the controversy, the return of the show has offered little consolation to those from the abandoned Season One episode. For Sharma, Kingrani and the other contestants, the experience remains an example of how an unexpected controversy can erase a potentially important opportunity before it reaches the public.
