The Family Man Actor Sharib Hashmi, Wife Recall 'Zero Money' Phase: 'Had to Sell Jewellery, House'

Sharib Hashmi recalls selling assets during a 15-year career struggle.

Actor Sharib Hashmi and his wife Nasreen Hashmi have opened up about the severe financial struggles they faced before the actor found success in the entertainment industry through the acclaimed web series The Family Man. In a recent interview, the couple recalled going through years of hardship after Sharib decided to leave his stable corporate job and pursue acting full time, a decision that significantly affected the family’s financial stability for more than a decade.

Sharib revealed that he was earning around ₹25,000 per month while working at MTV in the early 2000s before deciding to quit his job just a few years into his marriage. At the time, the couple had already become parents, making the decision even more difficult. The actor admitted that abandoning a steady source of income to follow his passion for acting involved considerable risk, but he credited his wife’s unwavering support for helping him continue during the most uncertain phases of his career. He said that if Nasreen had objected to the decision, he would likely have continued in his regular job rather than pursue acting.

Nasreen Hashmi spoke candidly about the financial sacrifices the family had to make while Sharib struggled to establish himself in the industry. She said the family gradually exhausted their savings and eventually had to sell jewellery and even their house to survive during the difficult years. According to Nasreen, every time an opportunity appeared promising, a new obstacle would emerge, extending the family’s struggle further. Despite the hardships, she said she remained confident in her husband’s talent and believed his dedication would eventually pay off.
