Sanchita Ugale's Friend Reveals Actor Struggled With Depression Since January

Television actor Sanchita Ugale’s sudden death has prompted fresh revelations from her close friend, who claimed that the 22-year-old had been repeatedly expressing suicidal thoughts for several months before her death. The statements, made by her friend Geetanjali, have added further detail to the ongoing discussion around the actor’s mental health struggles and the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Geetanjali, speaking to a media outlet, alleged that Sanchita had been battling severe emotional distress since the beginning of the year. She claimed that the actor had often spoken about wanting to die over a period of nearly six months. According to her, Sanchita had shown signs of depression and emotional instability, including periods of prolonged insomnia where she reportedly remained awake for several days at a stretch.

The friend further stated that Sanchita’s mental health appeared to deteriorate after returning from a shoot in Gujarat, following which she expressed a lack of emotional connection with her work. Geetanjali recalled that the actor had lost interest in her professional commitments despite being part of a leading television role and had described life as “torturous” during some conversations. She also mentioned that Sanchita had been receiving medical attention and support from her production team.

Geetanjali clarified that she was not aware of any professional conflict or dispute involving the actor and the production house. Instead, she suggested that Sanchita’s struggles were internal and long-standing. Her comments also appear to support earlier statements made by the actor’s father, who had indicated that she was undergoing depression prior to her death.

According to police officials, the incident occurred on June 14 at Sanchita Ugale’s residence in Sai Santoshi Building in Achole Village, Nalasopara East. Assistant Police Inspector Vinod Bagh of Achole Police Station stated that she was found inside her locked bedroom and allegedly died by suicide by hanging. Family members and neighbours rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita following a complaint by her father, Machhindra Ugale. Sanchita Ugale was known for her roles in television shows including Kumkum Bhagya and Wagle Ki Duniya, and had also appeared in the film Chhava. Authorities continue to follow due procedure as the investigation remains underway.
