Priyanka Sarkar Speaks About Husband Rahul Banerjee's Death: 'Lost My Best Friend of 21 Years'
Priyanka Sarkar opens up about her husband Rahul Banerjee's death.
Actor Priyanka Sarkar has spoken publicly for the first time about the death of her husband, actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, sharing an emotional reflection on their long-standing relationship. Banerjee passed away last month following a drowning incident near Digha, close to the Odisha–West Bengal border, while he was reportedly shooting for a television project.
In an interview with TV9 Bangla, Sarkar described the loss as deeply personal and said she had lost her “best friend", emphasising that their bond went far beyond marriage. She spoke about their more than two decades of friendship and how it shaped her life both personally and professionally.
Sarkar also highlighted Banerjee’s influence on her creative journey, stating that he played a significant role in shaping her exposure to films and literature. She recalled how they continued to share recommendations and maintain communication even during difficult phases of their relationship, underscoring the depth of their connection.

She further noted that Banerjee was one of her most important critics, whose opinions held great value in her work decisions. According to her, his honest feedback and perspective will be one of the most difficult things to replace in her professional life, as very few people offered such candid guidance.
Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, who passed away at the age of 43, was a well-known face in Bengali cinema and television, gaining recognition through films like Chirodini Tumi Je Amar, Zulfiqar, and Byomkesh Gotro, as well as TV shows including Hargouri Pice Hotel and Mohonna. He is survived by Sarkar and their 13-year-old son, Shohoj, while Sarkar continues to focus on her upcoming project Kuheli, scheduled for release on May 15 on Hoichoi.
