Pranit More Deactivates Instagram as Biryani Date Controversy Spirals Out of Control

Comedian's Instagram goes dark after viral biryani date clip sparks outrage.

The controversy surrounding comedian Pranit More’s viral stand-up clip has intensified, with his Instagram account appearing to have been deactivated amid mounting online backlash. Users attempting to access his primary account, @rj_pranit, have reported seeing a profile showing zero followers and zero following, indicating that the account may have been temporarily disabled. However, his secondary Instagram account, @maharashtrianbhau, remains active and continues to have a following of more than one million users.

The row originated from a now-deleted clip from one of More’s stand-up comedy performances that circulated widely on social media. During the show, audience member Himanshu Jangra, a 22-year-old from Gurugram, recounted an experience involving a date where he spent approximately Rs 370 on chicken biryani. While interacting with the comedian, Jangra suggested that because he had paid for the meal, he expected something in return from his date, a remark that quickly drew widespread criticism online.

The comment sparked a strong reaction across social media platforms, with many users condemning it as offensive and arguing that it reflected a problematic attitude toward women and the concept of consent. As clips from the performance gained traction, discussions expanded beyond the specific incident, with users debating personal accountability, dating expectations, and the responsibilities of performers when audience interactions become part of a public show.

The controversy has also had repercussions beyond social media. Reports indicate that Jangra faced professional consequences after the clip went viral, including the loss of his job. Meanwhile, More’s decision to remove or deactivate his Instagram presence has added another dimension to the debate. The incident continues to generate discussion online, highlighting broader questions about consent, public conduct, and the role of comedy in addressing sensitive social issues.
