Nikhil Chinapa Recalls Defending Mini Mathur During Their MTV Days
Nikhil Chinapa recalls punching fan who grabbed pregnant Mini Mathur.
Television presenter and former MTV VJ Nikhil Chinapa has recalled an incident from more than two decades ago in which he says he punched a man after the individual allegedly grabbed fellow television host Mini Mathur, who was pregnant at the time. Chinapa shared the story while reflecting on his long-standing friendship with Mathur during an interview following his eviction from the reality show Alliance. He said the incident reinforced a protective instinct that has remained unchanged throughout their 24-year friendship.
Recalling the episode, Chinapa said the incident occurred after an event celebrating Mathur's pregnancy. According to him, as the group was leaving the venue, a member of the audience allegedly tried to grab Mathur. Chinapa claimed he reacted immediately by jumping over a barricade and punching the individual. He said the moment left a lasting impression on him and strengthened his instinct to look out for his longtime friend.
The television personality explained that his protective nature continued during their participation in Alliance. Chinapa said he and Mathur entered the reality show with an unspoken understanding that they would support one another throughout the competition. Although they had not discussed any formal strategy, he said they instinctively knew they would stand by each other whenever required during the game.

Speaking about his journey on the show, Chinapa revealed that he tried to protect Mathur during a crucial stage of the competition by helping remove her name from a nomination list. He said his efforts succeeded in keeping her safe for that round, but he was unable to save himself and was subsequently eliminated from the competition. According to Chinapa, he had anticipated that she could become vulnerable if she remained on the list.
Chinapa also described Mathur as his "guardian angel" inside the house, saying she consistently defended him whenever other contestants questioned his intentions. He maintained that their friendship was genuine and not part of any gameplay or alliance formed solely for the competition. He credited Mathur with helping him navigate difficult situations during his time on the show.
Looking ahead to the finale, Chinapa expressed concern that Mathur could become a target following his eviction. At the same time, he said she is a strong contender for the title if she successfully overcomes the remaining challenges. He added that with him no longer in the competition, Mathur can now focus entirely on her own game as the reality show's finale approaches.
