JioHotstar Back Online After Hours of Chaos; Streaming Restored Nationwide
Users face streaming issues on JioHotstar amid sudden platform and network failure.
JioHotstar, one of India’s leading streaming platforms, faced a widespread outage on Wednesday, leaving millions of users unable to access movies, TV shows, and live sports. The disruption, which began around midday, affected mobile apps, smart TVs, and web platforms, with subscribers reporting login failures, buffering issues, and the disappearance of critical features like the search bar and “Continue Watching” options. Social media platforms, particularly X, were flooded with complaints, with one user lamenting, “JioHotstar isn’t working!! A lot of movies and shows are missing. There’s no search option or watched history.”
Compounding the streaming woes, Jio’s broader network services also experienced significant disruptions, as reported by the outage tracking platform DownDetector. Around 2 p.m. IST, close to 400 users flagged issues, with 44% citing mobile network unavailability, 32% reporting no signal, and 26% facing Jio Fiber connectivity problems. The timing was particularly inconvenient, coinciding with festive season releases and high-demand live cricket streams, amplifying user frustration across India’s digital landscape.
JioHotstar’s technical team responded swiftly, acknowledging the “unforeseen technical issue” through official customer support channels and assuring users that resolution efforts were underway. By late afternoon, the platform announced full restoration of services, stating, “The issue was temporary and has been resolved now. Please try accessing the app again. Happy streaming!” The company apologized for the inconvenience, urging users to report any lingering issues, though no specific cause for the outage was disclosed.

The incident highlights the growing reliance on digital platforms and the cascading impact of technical failures during peak usage periods. While JioHotstar’s rapid response mitigated the fallout, the outage underscores the need for robust infrastructure to support India’s surging demand for streaming and connectivity. As subscribers resume their viewing, the episode serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities in even the most popular digital services, prompting calls for greater transparency and preventive measures to ensure uninterrupted access.
