Indian Creator in Germany Highlights Work-Life Balance Gap Between India and Europe

Indian content creator highlights work-life balance differences between India and Europe.

An Indian content creator living in Germany has sparked widespread discussion on social media after highlighting what she described as a major difference in work-life balance between India and Europe, saying that “life slows down” significantly after working hours in European countries. The observation was shared in a video posted on Instagram, where she compared everyday lifestyle patterns in Europe with the fast-paced routine commonly experienced in India.

The creator, identified as Himani Sharma, explained that in Germany and much of Europe, work typically ends by around 6 pm, after which most shops close and people shift away from professional commitments to personal time. She said this structure allows individuals to focus on leisure, social interactions, and relaxation without the mental pressure of unfinished work, creating a clear separation between professional and personal life.

In her video, Sharma described her initial experience in Europe as a “culture shock,” noting that she was accustomed to a lifestyle in India where work-related thoughts often continue even during social gatherings. She contrasted this with what she observed in Europe, where people are more likely to disconnect from work, spend extended time in cafes, and engage in slower, more relaxed conversations without constant digital interruptions.

She further noted that the European approach to daily life encourages people to be more present in the moment, with less frequent phone usage during social interactions. According to her, this behavioural shift helped her personally appreciate the value of slowing down and engaging more meaningfully in everyday experiences, rather than rushing through commitments and conversations.

The video quickly drew reactions from social media users, with many agreeing with her observations and reflecting on differences in lifestyle and work culture across regions. Some users praised the concept of “slow living,” while others pointed to broader factors such as financial independence and societal structure that influence work-life balance in Europe compared to India.

The discussion has since added to ongoing online debates about productivity, lifestyle expectations, and cultural differences in work ethics between countries. While perspectives varied, the video resonated with many viewers who related to the contrast between fast-paced urban life and more structured, time-bound routines seen in several European nations.
