German fitness influencer Edda Elisa Pilz, widely known online as Edda Elisa, has drawn international attention after claiming she was temporarily prevented from boarding a Lufthansa flight because of her choice of clothing. The incident allegedly occurred before a flight from Berlin to Austria during a heatwave, with Elisa saying airline staff objected to her workout outfit. The episode quickly gained traction on social media after she shared her account in a video, prompting Lufthansa to issue a public response and launch an internal review.
Edda Elisa is one of Germany's best-known fitness content creators, with millions of followers across social media platforms. She is recognised for posting workout routines, fitness advice, and lifestyle content, earning a significant online audience. However, her latest viral moment has shifted attention away from fitness, focusing instead on her experience at the airport and sparking broader discussions about airline dress codes and passenger treatment.
According to Elisa, she was wearing a sports bra-style crop top and shorts while travelling during temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius. She said that as she prepared to scan her boarding pass, a Lufthansa employee stopped her and allegedly told her she could not board because she appeared to be "naked." Elisa claimed she immediately put on a jacket from her carry-on bag but was instructed to zip it completely before being allowed onto the aircraft. She also alleged that staff blamed her for delaying the boarding process and questioned whether similar standards were applied equally to male passengers.

Responding to the growing attention surrounding the incident, Lufthansa said the language described by Elisa did not reflect the airline's standards of customer service. The carrier stated that passengers are expected to wear clothing considered appropriate for public travel, in line with its Conditions of Carriage, while employees are expected to exercise professional judgment when enforcing those guidelines. The airline also confirmed it is reviewing the matter internally but declined to discuss individual passengers or staff members, citing privacy obligations.
The incident has generated widespread debate online about the balance between airline dress policies, customer service, and personal expression. While Elisa has maintained that she would have complied with any clearly communicated dress requirements, she questioned the consistency of their enforcement. As Lufthansa continues its internal review, the incident has reignited broader conversations about how airlines define appropriate attire and apply those standards across different passengers and cultural contexts.
