Dipika Chikhalia Supports Ranbir Kapoor's Casting as Lord Ram in 'Ramayana'

Veteran actor Dipika Chikhalia, who became a household name for portraying Sita in Ramanand Sagar's iconic television series Ramayan, has defended Ranbir Kapoor's casting as Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming film adaptation of the epic. Her comments came amid a growing debate over whether Ranbir's previous roles, especially his portrayal of a violent character in the film Animal, should influence public perception of his ability to play a revered mythological figure. The controversy gained momentum after the release of the trailer of Ramayana, with some sections of social media users questioning Ranbir Kapoor's suitability for the role of Lord Rama.

"We are actors. We haven't come from above. As actors, we get the opportunity to play different kinds of characters, and that's the biggest thing," she said. Defending Ranbir's ability to take on the role of Lord Rama, Dipika highlighted the difference between an actor's personal identity and the characters they portray. She said that a performer should be judged by their ability to adapt to different roles rather than being defined by previous projects. "If someone can do Barfi!, they can do Animal. And if they can do Animal, they can also play Ram," she said, pointing out that an actor's range allows them to move between completely different genres and characters.
