CID’s Daya Reveals Why He Still Owns 17-Year-Old Toyota Fortuner
Actor Daya Shetty explains emotional attachment to his long-owned Toyota Fortuner.
Television actor Dayanand Shetty, widely recognised for his role as ‘Daya’ in the long-running crime series CID, has shared a personal account of his long-standing ownership of a Toyota Fortuner, revealing that he has kept the SUV for 17 years and still finds it difficult to consider selling it. The remarks were made in a recent social media video, where he reflected on his experience with the vehicle.
Shetty said he purchased the Toyota Fortuner in 2010, shortly after the model was introduced in the Indian market. Prior to that, he owned a Toyota Innova, which he described as a dependable vehicle. However, looking for an upgrade in terms of performance and presence, he decided to switch to the Fortuner, a decision he says has remained rewarding over the years.
He explained that despite multiple thoughts of selling the SUV after five, ten, and even fifteen years of ownership, he never went through with it. Over the years, he has owned several other cars, but those were eventually sold within a few years of use. The Fortuner, however, remained a constant in his garage, largely due to its consistent performance and reliability.

According to Shetty, one of the key reasons for his emotional attachment to the vehicle is its dependability during long-distance travel. He frequently drives across states including Goa, Bengaluru, Gujarat, and Kerala, and said the SUV has never caused major issues during his journeys. He also noted that its comfort, durability, and strong road presence have contributed to his continued preference for the vehicle.
In the video, Shetty also highlighted that the SUV still maintains an impressive appearance despite its age. He pointed out that its design continues to feel relevant, suggesting that it has aged well visually. Based on its styling, the vehicle appears to be an earlier-generation model of the Toyota Fortuner, which has since undergone multiple updates over the years.
Concluding his remarks in a light-hearted tone, the actor said he may never sell the SUV and even joked that he would prefer to keep it as a permanent keepsake. The Toyota Fortuner itself remains one of the most popular SUVs in India, known for its reliability, strong performance, and commanding road presence across both urban and long-distance driving conditions.
