Badshah Releases First Marathi Hip-Hop Track ‘Chimna’ With Divya Kumar

Badshah blends Marathi folk and hip-hop in his debut track.

Popular rapper, singer and music producer Badshah has made his Marathi music debut with Chimna, a song that blends traditional Marathi folk sounds with contemporary hip-hop. The track also features playback singer Divya Kumar and acclaimed Marathi folk artist Nagesh Marwekar, bringing together diverse musical influences.

Chimna has drawn attention for its catchy folk-inspired hook and celebratory sound. The song combines traditional Marathi musical textures with Badshah's contemporary style, focusing on themes of culture, community and celebration. His Marathi verses add a distinct regional touch to the track, including the sign-off “Tumcha Mulga Badshah”.

The music video for Chimna was shot entirely in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and captures the energy of everyday local life. It features wedding processions, street scenes involving daily-wage workers and mud wrestlers training at a traditional akhada, giving the visuals a strong connection to Maharashtra's cultural landscape.

Marathi actor Neha Khan also features in the music video, adding to its festive atmosphere. The collaboration brings together Divya Kumar's Bollywood playback experience and Nagesh Marwekar's expertise in Marathi folk music, while music producer Hiten has shaped the track's contemporary sound.

Chimna reflects Badshah's growing interest in regional sounds and expands his musical repertoire beyond Punjabi, Haryanvi and Hindi music. The rapper began his music career in 2006 as part of the hip-hop collective Mafia Mundeer alongside Yo Yo Honey Singh before establishing himself as a prominent name in India's commercial music industry.

Badshah is known for popular tracks including DJ Waley Babu, Genda Phool and Jugnu, along with Bollywood songs such as Kar Gayi Chull, Garmi and Proper Patola. With Chimna, he ventures into Marathi music while retaining the commercial hip-hop style that has defined much of his career.
