Veteran television actor Apara Mehta has spoken publicly about her long-standing separation from actor Darshan Jariwala, recalling the emotional conversation that led to the couple living apart while explaining why they never legally divorced. In a recent interview, the actress shared that Jariwala told her he had "fallen out of love" with her before they separated in 2003, marking a turning point in their marriage after more than two decades together.
Mehta said the conversation took place shortly after she returned from the United States, where she had been performing stage shows. She recalled that Jariwala had asked to speak with her on their wedding anniversary, and after she returned to India, he expressed his desire to end their relationship. According to the actress, he told her he no longer loved her and made remarks about her appearance that she described as deeply hurtful.
The actress said she left for a television shoot shortly after the conversation, despite having returned from the United States only hours earlier. She explained that she spent the day filming major scenes while trying to process what had happened. Mehta said it was only later, after the day's work, that the reality of the conversation fully sank in, as she initially found it difficult to believe what had been said.

Despite the separation, Mehta revealed that the two have maintained a cordial relationship over the years. She said Jariwala eventually moved out of their home, but added that the house remains open to him if he ever wishes to return. According to the actress, they continue to share mutual respect and remain comfortable in each other's company, saying they can still understand each other with remarkable ease.
Apara Mehta and Darshan Jariwala married in 1982 and have one daughter together. Although they have lived separately since 2003, the couple has never legally ended their marriage. Mehta indicated that while they chose different paths in life, they have continued to maintain an amicable bond without pursuing divorce proceedings.
Darshan Jariwala is known for his work in films such as Gandhi, My Father, Guru and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, while Apara Mehta is widely recognised for portraying Savita Mansukh Virani in the popular television serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Her recent interview has drawn attention for offering a rare and candid insight into the personal challenges behind one of television's most well-known former couples.
