Ananya Birla Debuts At Met Gala 2026 Wearing Metallic Mask By Subodh Gupta

Ananya Birla makes Met Gala 2026 debut in metallic mask, becoming a viral fashion highlight.

Indian businesswoman Ananya Birla made a striking and unconventional debut at the Met Gala 2026, where her mysterious appearance quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the night. Instead of revealing her face like most debutants, she appeared in a full-face metallic mask, creating a dramatic visual statement that immediately drew global attention.

Her outfit was designed by London-based designer Robert Wun and featured a bold black couture ensemble. The look included a structured peplum-style jacket paired with a voluminous pleated floor-length skirt, giving her silhouette a sculptural and commanding presence. A light blue shirt subtly visible beneath the jacket added contrast, softening the otherwise intense monochrome outfit.

The most striking element of her appearance was the metallic mask crafted by Indian artist Subodh Gupta. Made from stainless steel, the full-face mask completely concealed her identity and transformed her into what many described as a walking piece of conceptual art. The design emphasized themes of anonymity, power, and artistic expression, aligning with Gupta’s known style of transforming everyday materials into symbolic installations.

Her styling was curated by fashion stylist Rhea Kapoor, with additional creative direction by Chandni Modha, who helped integrate all elements into a cohesive artistic narrative. The ensemble was completed with a multi-gemstone necklace from Mehta & Sons, while minimal makeup and open hair ensured that the focus remained entirely on the outfit and mask rather than conventional celebrity glamour.

The look quickly went viral on social media, with fashion commentators and netizens describing her as the “mystery of the night.” Many praised the bold artistic direction, noting that her masked appearance challenged traditional expectations of red carpet visibility and shifted attention toward conceptual fashion storytelling rather than personal image.

Ananya Birla, daughter of industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, is also a business leader and founder of Svatantra Microfin, one of India’s largest microfinance companies, which she established at the age of 17. In addition to her business career, she is a pop singer and mental health advocate, with growing international recognition across both entrepreneurship and music.
