Amazon Prime Sets July 1 Premiere for Legally Blonde Prequel Elle, Renews for Season 2
Reese Witherspoon executive produces series exploring Elle Woods’ high school years with early Season 2 greenlight.
Amazon Prime Video has announced that its highly anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series, titled Elle, will premiere globally on July 1, with all episodes dropping at once. In a bold show of confidence, the streamer has already greenlit a second season, which is scheduled to begin production this spring—well before the first season even airs. The move underscores strong belief in the project’s appeal to both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers.
Created by Laura Kittrell, Elle takes audiences back to Elle Woods’ teenage years in high school, revealing the formative experiences that shaped her into the confident, pink-loving, fiercely intelligent lawyer portrayed by Reese Witherspoon in the original films. Lexi Minetree steps into the iconic role of young Elle, bringing fresh energy to the beloved character. Witherspoon, who made Elle Woods a cultural phenomenon in 2001’s Legally Blonde and its 2003 sequel, serves as an executive producer through her Hello Sunshine banner.
Witherspoon described the project as a personal dream come true, saying, “Twenty-five years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it’s a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with.” She praised Minetree’s performance, calling it one of the most gratifying experiences of her career, and highlighted the series’ enduring themes of kindness, authenticity, and self-belief.

The cast features June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott as Elle’s parents, Eva and Wyatt Woods, alongside Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker in key roles. Recurring guests include Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and James Van Der Beek. Kittrell co-showruns with Caroline Dries, while Jason Moore directs the first two episodes and joins as an executive producer.
The Legally Blonde franchise has enjoyed lasting popularity since the 2001 film’s global success, grossing over $140 million worldwide and spawning a sequel, a Broadway musical, and a direct-to-video third installment. With Witherspoon’s continued involvement, Elle promises to expand the legacy while delivering the fun, empowering spirit that made the original a classic.
