Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Journey: From CBFC Delays And Leaks To Grand Premiere
Vijay’s Jana Nayagan journey from delays to premiere
Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan has finally reached theatres after facing a long and difficult journey marked by certification delays, legal hurdles, release uncertainty and piracy concerns. Touted as Vijay’s grand swansong before he shifts his focus completely towards his political career, the H Vinoth-directed political action drama has been surrounded by intense anticipation among fans and the film industry.
The film, which marks Vijay’s 69th and final appearance as a lead actor, was originally scheduled for a Pongal release on January 9. The project was expected to serve as a grand farewell to Vijay’s three-decade-long career in cinema, but its path to the big screen became complicated due to multiple challenges. From delays involving the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to disputes over clearance, the movie faced several roadblocks before finally receiving permission for theatrical release.
The certification process became one of the biggest hurdles for Jana Nayagan. The film was submitted to the CBFC in December 2025, and reports suggested that the board had initially indicated that the movie would receive a U/A 16+ certificate. However, just days before its scheduled release, objections were reportedly raised by a member of the examining committee, leading to the film being sent to a revision committee for further review.

The delay in receiving certification resulted in uncertainty around the release date, leaving producers and fans waiting for clarity. The CBFC maintained that the process was being followed according to established guidelines, while the film’s makers faced mounting pressure as promotional plans and release arrangements were affected. The prolonged certification process eventually triggered further discussions within the industry over delays faced by major film releases.
Apart from certification issues, Jana Nayagan also encountered legal challenges and concerns over leaks. As anticipation around Vijay’s final film increased, parts of the movie’s content were reportedly circulated online, raising concerns among the production team over piracy and potential impact on the theatrical business. The makers worked to address these issues while continuing preparations for the film’s eventual release.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan combines political themes with action elements and has attracted significant attention due to Vijay’s transition from cinema to politics. The actor, who launched his political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has indicated that he will dedicate himself to his political journey after completing his film commitments. This has added emotional significance to the project, with fans viewing it as the final chapter of Vijay’s acting career.
After months of uncertainty, delays and controversies, Jana Nayagan has finally arrived in theatres, marking a major milestone in Vijay’s cinematic journey. The film’s release is expected to draw large crowds as fans celebrate the actor’s final outing on the big screen before his full-time entry into politics. The response to the movie will determine whether Vijay’s farewell film becomes a memorable conclusion to one of Tamil cinema’s most influential careers.
