Vijay's Father Breaks Silence: 'He Is Not Afraid' Despite Jana Nayagan's Major Release Setback

SA Chandrasekhar links the Jana Nayagan delay to Vijay's politics, saying he fears nothing.

Veteran filmmaker S. A. Chandrasekhar has broken his silence on the prolonged delay in the theatrical release of Jana Nayagan, linking the hurdles faced by the film to actor Vijay’s recent entry into politics. Speaking to the media, Chandrasekhar said the circumstances surrounding the delay were widely understood and insisted that his son remained undeterred despite the obstacles.

Addressing reports of repeated postponements, Chandrasekhar was quoted as saying that Vijay was “not afraid of anything” and was prepared to face challenges that often accompany a first foray into politics. Referring to recent developments in Karur, he suggested that the situation had only strengthened Vijay’s resolve, adding that setbacks were natural for anyone transitioning into the political arena.

Chandrasekhar also pointed to what he described as a broader cultural shift following Vijay’s political move. He remarked that political discussions had expanded among younger audiences and women, noting that many were now more engaged and articulate in conversations around public issues. According to him, this heightened engagement reflected the wider impact of Vijay’s entry into public life beyond cinema.

The comments come amid a significant legal setback for Jana Nayagan. The Madras High Court recently set aside an earlier order by a single judge that had directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant a censor certificate to the film. The court observed that the CBFC should have been given sufficient time to file its response before any directive was issued, effectively prolonging the clearance process.

As a result, Jana Nayagan cannot be released in theatres until it receives certification from the CBFC, with a fresh hearing now awaited. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film was originally slated for a worldwide release on January 9, ahead of the Pongal festival. The cast includes Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, but the final release date remains uncertain as legal proceedings continue.
