Samay Raina's Vegan Joke Resurfaces And Goes Viral Again
Comedian's vegan joke sparks fresh social media reactions.
Comedian Samay Raina's humorous social media post about trying a vegan diet has resurfaced online and once again attracted widespread attention. The 2021 Instagram post, which joked about the unexpected "side effects" of going vegan, has been widely shared by fans while reigniting discussions around plant-based diets and their connection with weight loss. Raina had written that after following a vegan diet for a month, he had seen a major change — joking that he had "lost all my friends."
The post was intended as a comedy piece rather than a serious health claim, but its popularity reflects the growing public interest in vegan lifestyles. Vegan diets exclude all animal-derived foods, including meat, dairy products, and eggs. Health experts have noted that a properly planned vegan diet based mainly on whole plant foods can support weight management and improve overall health, although simply removing animal products does not automatically result in weight loss.
Nutrition specialists point out that the quality of food choices plays an important role in the effectiveness of any diet. While fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains can provide important nutrients and support healthier eating habits, highly processed vegan foods can still be high in calories and may not lead to weight reduction. Experts generally recommend maintaining a balanced approach to ensure adequate intake of protein, vitamins, and essential nutrients.

Raina's renewed online attention comes as the comedian continues his return to public appearances after staying away from the spotlight following the controversy surrounding his show "India's Got Latent." Earlier this year, he returned with his stand-up special "Still Alive," which gained significant viewership on YouTube. He later launched the second season of "India's Got Latent," which is now available on digital platforms including Netflix and YouTube.
The comedian has also remained involved in legal proceedings connected to the first season of his show. Recently, the Supreme Court directed him to deposit ₹3 lakh after observing that he had not followed earlier court directions in a case related to alleged insensitive jokes about persons with disabilities. Despite the ongoing controversy, Raina has continued his comedy performances and maintained a strong presence among his audience, with his old posts and new projects continuing to attract public attention.
