Ranbir Kapoor's 'Ramayana' To Release Early In Thailand, Germany, Australia, Singapore And Malaysia

Five countries will get the film ahead of schedule.

Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi-starrer Ramayana is set for a staggered international release, with the film now scheduled to arrive a day earlier in five countries. Thailand, Germany, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia will get the film on November 5, while its broader international release is scheduled for November 6. The change is part of the makers’ international distribution strategy for the highly anticipated mythological epic.

Producer Namit Malhotra had earlier told NDTV that the international release was being planned around the Friday distribution cycle. Explaining the difference between the overseas and Indian release schedules, Malhotra said the film was targeting November 6 internationally, while the Indian release was being planned around Diwali. The revised dates therefore allow the film to reach audiences in the five specified markets one day before the wider international release.

The film has also drawn attention for its reported scale and production budget. Malhotra has said the two-part project is being made at a combined budget of around $500 million, which translates to more than Rs 4,000 crore. He said the production was conceived on a scale intended to take the Indian epic to a global audience, while stressing that the makers were attempting to manage the ambitious production efficiently.

Music is another major feature of the project, with Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer collaborating with A.R. Rahman. Rahman has described the partnership as a significant challenge given the cultural and global importance of the story. The composers are working on music intended to retain the epic character of the source material while presenting it to audiences beyond India.

Ramayana is planned as a two-part film, with Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi among the principal cast members. The project is being mounted with an international distribution strategy alongside its large-scale production ambitions. While the film's international schedule includes the November 5 release in the five specified countries and November 6 release elsewhere internationally, the makers are targeting an Indian release around Diwali.
