Producer Comments On Jana Nayagan Release Following Vijay’s Oath Ceremony
Producer addresses Jana Nayagan release speculation after Vijay becomes chief minister.
Producer K Venkat Narayana on Sunday said the release of Jana Nayagan would depend on the film receiving clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), ending months of speculation surrounding the delayed Vijay-starrer. Narayana made the remarks shortly after actor-turned-politician Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters after the swearing-in ceremony, Narayana said the production team was waiting for the censor certificate before announcing a new release date. “We are waiting for the CBFC certificate. As soon as we get the certificate, we will release the film,” he said. He also congratulated Vijay on assuming office and described the political transition as the beginning of a “new chapter” for Tamil Nadu.
The producer’s comments come after months of uncertainty surrounding the film, which was initially scheduled for a theatrical release on January 9. The project has remained unreleased after delays in the certification process. Reports suggest the film was first screened for the CBFC examining committee in December 2025, following which several cuts were reportedly recommended before a U/A certificate could be considered.

According to reports, the producers accepted the suggested changes and resubmitted the film. However, the certification process became more complicated after complaints were allegedly raised regarding certain scenes, leading to the film being referred to a revising committee. The prolonged delay reportedly affected the film’s release plans, international screenings and distribution agreements. The film was also leaked online during the delay period, further impacting the production team.
Backed by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan has been widely promoted as Vijay’s final film before his full-time entry into politics. The production house had earlier congratulated Vijay after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, secured a majority in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. In a social media statement, the banner described Vijay’s victory as a historic political moment.
Apart from Vijay, the film also stars Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in key roles. Vijay had earlier alleged that the film’s certification delay was part of a political conspiracy and claimed that details regarding his personal life were deliberately leaked ahead of the elections. Neither the CBFC nor ruling political parties have publicly responded to those allegations.
