Georgekutty Returns: Drishyam 3 Release Delayed But Promises Thrills on Mohanlal’s Birthday

Drishyam 3 postponed, now releasing May 21, 2026; Mohanlal reprises Georgekutty in Jeethu Joseph’s thriller.

The release of Drishyam 3 has been postponed, with actor Mohanlal confirming that the film will now premiere worldwide on May 21, 2026, coinciding with his birthday. The movie was originally scheduled for April 2. Industry sources suggest the delay may be related to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region, which could have affected distribution and release logistics for overseas markets.

Directed by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 marks the continuation of the popular thriller franchise, with Mohanlal reprising his role as Georgekutty. The story is expected to explore the aftermath of events from Drishyam 2, continuing the suspenseful narrative that has captivated audiences. The ensemble cast includes Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Siddique, Murali Gopy, and KB Ganesh Kumar.

Mohanlal completed filming for the project in December last year. Remarkably, he began work on the film on the same day he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honour in cinema, adding historical significance to the project. The production involved multiple locations across Kerala, with Jeethu Joseph focusing on maintaining the franchise’s signature suspense and tightly woven plotlines.

The Drishyam series has been a benchmark in Malayalam cinema for its storytelling and narrative depth. The first installment, released in 2013, became one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of the year and was praised for its realistic portrayal of family dynamics intertwined with a gripping thriller. Drishyam 2, released in 2021, continued the story and set new box office records, further cementing the franchise’s legacy.

The May 21 release also allows the makers to align the film’s premiere with Mohanlal’s birthday, creating a celebratory event for fans and adding promotional value. Marketing campaigns are expected to include trailers, interviews, and special previews for select audiences in Kerala and across India.

With anticipation building both domestically and internationally, Drishyam 3 is positioned to continue the franchise’s strong legacy. Analysts note that the film is likely to attract wide audiences due to the series’ reputation for suspenseful storytelling, Mohanlal’s star power, and the director’s consistent ability to deliver compelling narratives.
