'Dorothy' Earns Standing Ovation at Toronto Film Festival Premiere

Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj’s upcoming film Dorothy received a standing ovation at its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Tamil feature was screened in the festival’s Centrepiece category, marking the first time in nearly a decade that a Tamil film has been selected for the section, formerly known as Contemporary World Cinema.

The premiere marked an important international milestone for the film and its team, with the audience responding positively to the screening. Clips and videos from the event have since surfaced online, offering glimpses of the reception the film received during its first public presentation at the prestigious festival.

Producer Guneet Monga Kapoor shared videos from the premiere on her official social media account. The screening was attended by members of the cast and crew, including Keerthy Suresh, Sananath and Rishikanth, along with producers Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain.

The film was screened at Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto as part of TIFF’s acclaimed international programme. Its inclusion in the Centrepiece category places the Tamil production among a selection of films showcased for their distinctive storytelling and international cinematic appeal.

The positive response at the world premiere comes shortly before the film’s scheduled theatrical release. Dorothy is set to release on September 25, giving audiences an opportunity to watch the film following its high-profile debut at the international festival.
