Makers unveiled the title and release date of Dhanush’s next.
The makers of actor Dhanush and filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy's upcoming film have officially unveiled its title and release date. Previously referred to as D55, the project has now been titled Om and is scheduled to hit theatres on October 16. The announcement was made on Thursday, generating excitement among fans eager to see the first collaboration between the acclaimed actor and director.
The film boasts a star-studded cast featuring Dhanush in the lead role alongside Sai Pallavi and Mammootty, who are set to play pivotal characters. Actress Sreeleela, who recently made her Tamil cinema debut with Parasakthi (2026), is also part of the project. Veteran actor Indrans has been cast in a significant role as well, adding further depth to the ensemble lineup.
Interestingly, director Rajkumar Periasamy used the hashtag "Om Chapter 1" while sharing the announcement, sparking speculation that the film could be the first installment of a larger franchise. While the makers have not officially confirmed plans for subsequent chapters, the wording has led fans to believe that Om may launch a multi-film cinematic universe.

The project marks an important milestone in Dhanush's career as it is his 55th feature film. It also represents his first collaboration with Rajkumar Periasamy, who rose to prominence with the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Amaran. The film starred Sivakarthikeyan as Major Mukund Varadarajan, the Indian Army officer who was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry honour.
For Sai Pallavi, Om marks a reunion with Rajkumar Periasamy following their successful partnership in Amaran, where she portrayed Indhu Rebecca Varghese, the wife of Major Mukund Varadarajan. The new project also reunites Sai Pallavi with Dhanush after their popular collaboration in Maari 2, a pairing that remains a fan favourite in Tamil cinema.
The film is also significant for Mammootty, as it marks his return to Tamil cinema after the acclaimed 2018 drama Peranbu. With a celebrated cast, an accomplished director and growing curiosity about its storyline, Om has emerged as one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of the year. Further details about the plot and technical crew are expected to be revealed in the coming months ahead of its October release.
