1 Dead, 3 Injured In Cylinder Explosion On Chennai Film Set In Perambur
Cylinder explosion on Chennai film set kills one technician.
One person was killed and three others were injured after a cylinder explosion occurred at a film shooting location in Perambur on the sets of actor S. J. Suryah’s upcoming movie Killer. The incident took place at the Binni Mill premises, a well-known site used for film shootings in Chennai, while preparations were underway for a planned blast sequence.
According to police, the explosion happened when a cylinder was being filled as part of the setup for the scene. During the process, an unexpected blast occurred, leading to a fatal accident on set. The sudden explosion caused panic among the crew members present at the location.
A 25-year-old technician identified as Madhan died on the spot due to the impact of the blast. Three other technicians were injured in the incident. The injured have been identified as Dinakaran, who suffered a fracture in his right leg, Suriya, who sustained injuries to his right wrist, and Sakthivel, who also suffered injuries to his right leg. All three are currently receiving medical treatment.

The injured technicians were admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGH) in Chennai, where they are undergoing treatment. Hospital sources indicated that the injured are being closely monitored, while doctors are providing necessary emergency care for their injuries.
Following the incident, Chennai Police registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Authorities are also examining whether proper safety protocols and precautionary measures were followed at the shooting site, particularly during the handling of explosive materials used for filming sequences.
The accident has once again raised concerns over safety standards on film sets where stunt or explosion scenes are being executed. The Binni Mill premises, often used as a filming location for action sequences, has previously hosted several productions, making the incident a serious point of review for industry safety practices.
