GV Prakash's 'Immortal' Moves Release to September 4 Avoiding Clash With 'Jana Nayagan'
GV Prakash's Immortal postpones release to avoid clashing with Jana Nayagan.
Actor-composer GV Prakash Kumar has postponed the release of his upcoming supernatural horror film Immortal to avoid a box office clash with Vijay's much-awaited Jana Nayagan. The decision came shortly after the makers of Jana Nayagan officially announced July 23 as the film's theatrical release date. Originally scheduled to release on the same day, Immortal will now arrive in cinemas on September 4.
Announcing the postponement on social media platform X, GV Prakash described the decision as a mark of respect for Vijay, popularly known by fans as "Thalapathy." In his post, he wrote that when Thalapathy arrives, one has to step aside, especially considering that Jana Nayagan is expected to be Vijay's final film as an actor. He also wished the entire team behind Jana Nayagan success and confirmed that Immortal would now release on September 4.
Directed by Mariyappan Chinna and produced by AK Film Factory, Immortal stars GV Prakash Kumar alongside Kayadu Lohar. The film revolves around a young man living in an apartment complex whose fascination with a mysterious new neighbour leads him into a series of supernatural events. The makers had announced July 23 as the release date only weeks earlier before revising their plans following the confirmation of Jana Nayagan's release.

The makers of Jana Nayagan, KVN Productions, announced the new release date through social media, describing the film as one that had overcome several challenges before reaching theatres. The production house also confirmed that the first show in Tamil Nadu will begin at 9 a.m., while audiences in Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will be able to watch early morning shows starting at 5 a.m.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan had originally been planned for release on January 9 but was delayed following issues related to certification. Reports indicated that although the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was initially expected to grant the film a U/A 16+ certificate, objections raised during the certification process resulted in the film being referred to a revision committee, delaying its theatrical release for several months.
Produced by KVN Productions on a reported budget of around Rs 500 crore, Jana Nayagan is widely anticipated as Vijay's farewell film before his full-time entry into politics. The film features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. With Immortal moving to September, Jana Nayagan is now set for a solo release on July 23, a development expected to further boost anticipation among Vijay's fans.
